A Writer’s Writer
Anna Clarke Fiddler is an editor and published writer known for her rare combination of rigorous craft, deep listening, and radical empathy. She brings exceptional care to every project, attending closely to voice, structure, and meaning—helping writers clarify their vision and bring their most resonant work into the world.
Her editorial and writing work spans some of the most respected institutions in the arts, design, and healthcare, including Pinterest, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Kaiser Permanente, and Autodesk. In these settings, Anna has shaped complex ideas into clear, compelling narratives with a consistent focus on integrity, emotional truth, and meaningful connection with readers.
Anna holds an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Sarah Lawrence College, where she studied with Pulitzer Prize–winning poet and critic Vijay Seshadri. She also trained at the Salt Institute for Documentary Studies, long regarded as a proving ground for NPR journalists, where she deepened her commitment to reported storytelling and narrative rigor. In 2025, she was a writer-in-residence at Hedgebrook, an internationally renowned literary retreat for women writers.
At the heart of Anna’s work is a devotion to story—not just as art, but as a means of understanding, connection, and transformation. She partners closely with writers at every stage, helping them trust their voice, sharpen their thinking, and bring ambitious work to life.
Anna is passionate about art, design, cooking, women’s health, gardening, listening to stories, and having a good laugh. She’s at work on her first novel, a ghost story set in Dublin in the 1960s. She currently lives and works in Oakland, California with her husband, two young children, and a giant Bernedoodle.
